Third Wednesday at the Glass Studio

NORFOLK, Va. – (January 2013) – The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio continues its evening series, Third Wednesday at the Glass Studio, in 2013 with an exciting roster of entertainment.  Admission is free for Museum Members and $5 for all others. In addition to light refreshments, a cash bar is available.  Seats are limited, so it’s first-come, first-served with no reservations.

Third Wednesday at the Glass Studio features creative glass demonstrations combined with live music or other performance art in a unique themed program every month.

January 16, 7–10 p.m.     The Glass Theater: Phantom
Using the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio as the stage, artists, writers, performers, and glassblowers will come together for an avant garde theatrical performance. Enjoy a magical hot-cast-glass version of Pepper’s Ghost by Jocelyne Prince; Driving Steam, an evening storm of light, sound, and steam by Julia and Robin Rogers; and an eerie musical improv between the violin of indie favorite Kishi Bashi and glass instruments played with a blowtorch by South Korean artist Bohyun Yoon.

February 20, 7–10 p.m.    The Parthenon
Tonight we admire the architecture of the ancients with artist Liesl Schubel’s the Parthenon performance. This epic attempt to recreate the columns of the Parthenon out of glass is a full-blown toga party. Enjoy classic hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and live music by the band Ice Cream featuring Evan Martin on drums and Michael Libramento on organ and electric piano.

March 20, 7–10 p.m.     Beth Lipman, Artist in Residence
Watch Artist in Residence Beth Lipman create a temporal still life installation with our Studio Team. This ephemeral sculpture will literally be set ablaze and accompanied by the music Jacob Vanko.

The Chrysler Museum of Art is one of America’s most distinguished mid-sized art museums with a world-class collection of more than 30,000 objects, including one of the great glass collections in America, the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio, and two historic houses, the Moses Myers House and the Willoughby-Baylor House. The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio is located at 745 Duke Street in Norfolk. For exhibitions, programming and special events, visit chrysler.org or call 757-664-6200.
