Conservation in the Galleries

Conservator Mark Lewis and NEH Conservation Fellow Brandon Finney will bring their work from behind the scenes to the galleries. Learn about the techniques they use to care for the Museum’s beloved paintings as they continue their work on Giuseppe Maria Crespi’s ca. 1700 The Continence of Scipio. The large oil on canvas painting references the generosity of Scipio Africanus the Elder, a Roman general.

Mabel O. Wilson and Louis Nelson in Conversation

Renowned scholars Mabel O. Wilson and Louis P. Nelson will discuss the contributions and legacy of enslaved craftsman on the architecture of Thomas Jefferson. Wilson is a professor of architectural design at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Research in African American Studies and co-directs Global Africa Lab. Things are going to get spooky at the Chrysler. During the day, make frightening crafts and search the Museum for living works of art. At 4 p.m., the lights will go down in the galleries for flashlight tours and the Monster Mash Dance Party will kick off in Huber Court.
