The Chrysler Museum of Art Unleashes Summer Spookiness with July-O-Ween, the Latest IgNITE Experience

NORFOLK, VA (May 31, 2024) – When ghosts and goblins kick off summer break, they party at Ignite: July-O-Ween. Step out of the summer heat and into spine-chilling fun with eccentric costumes and electrifying music at the Chrysler Museum of Art, One Memorial Place, Norfolk.

The Museum’s revolutionary art party, IgNITE, takes an amusing turn to the dark side with live performances, dancing, and art like you’ve never experienced. Step into an alternate reality, don your most outrageous attire and join us for an evening where creativity knows no bounds and minds run wild. You’ll want to check out the Live Monster Paint Battle and Freaky Fashion Show, and experience surprises in Maze Madness. And, as always, you are invited to get into the mix— by competing for best costume, dancing to magical DJ sets by DURAG RAF, and diving into hands-on art-making. This adults-only bash is designed to IgNITE your imagination with fun, fright, and the sheer thrill of being alive.

“IgNITE continues to get bigger and better. We can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes and celebrate the wonder of art in such a unique and inventive way,” said Stacey Shelnut-Hendrick, Deputy Director for Public Engagement and Learning. “July-O-Ween is about embracing creativity, having fun, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”

Due to the nature of the Museum setting, costume guidelines include:

  • No masks or face-covering accessories,
  • Leave the props at home (no toy guns, swords, wands, staffs, brooms, etc.),
  • Stick to costumes that don’t extend beyond your personal space, and
  • Keep it tasteful – save the nudity for the art!

Tickets are $10 for Museum members and $20 for non-members, with prices increasing by $10 on the day of the event. Cocktails, wine, beer, and light bites are for sale by Zinnia, a new concept by TASTE. This event is rain or shine and is exclusively for ages 21+. Advance registration is highly recommended.

IgNITE: July-O-Ween promises to be Norfolk’s most exciting art party yet, where the only thing scarier than the costumes is missing out on the fun. Join us on Friday, July 26, from 7–10 p.m. to be part of this revolutionary art experience.

IgNITE is presented thanks to generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program. Special thanks to our community partners LAVA Presents, Foster Beauty, and Utopia Feni Creative Studios.
