Spring Arts Preview: Four Must-See Exhibitions at the Chrysler Museum of Art
NORFOLK, Va., April 7, 2025– The Chrysler Museum of Art is proud to announce a dynamic Spring lineup of exhibitions that explore the intersections of history, identity, and artistic expression. From the groundbreaking glass art of contemporary Indigenous artists to an exploration of the history of Mexican photography in shaping national identity, these upcoming exhibitions represent the range and inclusivity of the globally recognized Museum at One Memorial Place, Norfolk, Virginia.

Greta Pratt: Jamestown is Sinking
On view from March 6 to July 27, 2025, in the Frank Photography Gallery, this exhibition explores the disparities and connections between climate change and colonialism in Virginia’s coastal region, where sea level threatens both land and history. A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow in photography, Pratt is an acclaimed local artist whose work explores American myth, place, and identity.

JJJJJerome Ellis: Contradictions
On view from May 2 to November 2, 2025, in the Box, this exhibition presents two video works Impediment is Information (2021) and transCRIPted (2020) in which Ellis explores notions of dysfluency through Blackness, language, music, and time as a strategy for resistance and survival.

Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass
On view from June 13 to September 14, 2025, this groundbreaking exhibition gives overdue recognition to a wide range of contemporary Native American and Indigenous Pacific-Rim artists working in the medium of glass. The featured artworks embody the intellectual content of Native traditions, newly illuminated by the unique characteristics that can only be achieved through glass.
Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass was originated by The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The traveling exhibit was curated by Dr. Letitia Chambers and is toured by International Arts & Artists.

Constructing Mexico: Photography and National Identity
On view from August 7 to November 30, 2025, this exhibition explores the evolution of photography in Mexico through works drawn from the Chrysler Museum and local collectors. From 19th-century commercial images to 20th-century revolutionary depictions, these photographs highlight how photography has shaped and reflected Mexico’s national identity.
