At the Virginia MOCA
As the Chrysler undergoes its landmark expansion, here’s a chance to see some of the top items in our contemporary art collection in a brand new setting. The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art presents The Nexus, an intriguing way to show the connections between two mainstays of the Hampton Roads art scene.
A “nexus” is defined as a causal link or a connected group or series, and it’s a perfect name for this exhibition. It consists of artists that Virginia MOCA has featured before, but this time, the presentation includes works from our collection. The impressive lineup includes glass artists such as Dale Chihuly, photographers such as Robert Mapplethorpe and Andres Serrano, and a who’s-who of contemporary art, including works by Robert Motherwell, Red Grooms, Tim Rollins, Carrie Mae Weems, Whitfield Lovell, Benny Andrews and William Wegman.
