Past Exhibition
Photography by Suzanne Opton
An exhibition of faces that have seen unforgettable things. That’s how Suzanne Opton once described these photographs of veterans, and the Chrysler is pleased and proud to display these moving portraits.
The exhibition’s peaceful and reflective setting is a stark contrast to the experiences internalized by many of these soldiers. Their memories of World War II, the Cold War, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan wind up being cloaked in highly personal ways. That’s what prompted the symbolic cloaks in these portraits. These are pictures of the outside that illuminate what’s happening on the inside.
