Layers: Mixed Media Work and the Eleventh Annual Wearable Arts Exhibition
March 11, 2025 — April 27, 2025
Margaret Shepherd Ray Family and Student Gallery

Each year, the Chrysler Museum of Art and The Governor’s School for the Arts partner on a semester-long program that culminates in a fashion show on Friday, March 21 and an exhibition in the Margaret Shepherd Ray Family and Student Gallery. This year, students found inspiration in the Chrysler Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Layers—conceptual and related to artistic processes—were the overarching theme students responded to for both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional wearable arts classes. These artists thoughtfully explored layers in painting, printmaking, collage, assemblage, drawing, and mixed media. Over 50 students participate in the Wearable Arts Show, titled If the Choux ‘Fits.
If the Choux ‘Fits playfully includes a word related to a confection of different ingredients beautifully displayed while riffing off an abbreviation for an outfit. Select modeled looks that went down the runway are exhibited at the Museum after the event. This diverse set of works celebrates the creativity, craftsmanship, and concept of each student.

This partnership between The Governor’s School for the Arts and the Chrysler Museum of Art is a true celebration of creative problem solving and artist agency. It is a way to encourage young artists to use museums as sources of inspiration and artistic growth, then show off that unique perspective to the community. Working with the innovative students, faculty, and staff at GSA encourages new ways of seeing the Museum’s collections and exhibitions.
