Spanish and Portuguese Colonial Art from the Collection of Roberta and Richard Huber.
Journey to the high plains of South America with Highest Heaven: Spanish and Portuguese Colonial Art from the Collection of Roberta and Richard Huber.
Our spring keynote exhibition features more than 100 objects that display the encounter between the rich artistic cultures of Europe and the New World during the eighteenth century.
The exquisite collection of Spanish and Portuguese colonial art includes paintings of archangels, carved and gilded sculptures, exquisite ivory sculptures of saints and the Virgin, and splendid silverwork. Many of the works were used for devotion and religious instruction.
This exhibition was organized by the San Antonio Museum of Art.
