Five Years of Photography
July 26, 2019 — October 20, 2019
Frank Photography Gallery
Over the past five years, the Chrysler has hosted twenty photography exhibitions. That’s four new shows of photography each year.
Often drawn from the Museum’s collection, these shows presented work by notable figures from the history of photography, including Ansel Adams, Larry Clark, Alexander Gardner, Herb Ritts, and Tseng Kwong Chi.

Five Years of Photography does something a little different. Since 2014, the Chrysler Museum of Art has committed to reviving its photography program with new acquisitions, and this exhibition shares the most recent additions. Just last year, the Museum acquired more than 500 photographs. Priorities include diversifying the collection by adding more photographs by women, people of color, and artists working in Hampton Roads. Special attention has also been given to objects that reflect on the history of the medium.
