Celebrating Smokey Bear
August 9, 2014 — February 1, 2015
Past Exhibition
The Chrysler celebrates seven decades of an American icon—Smokey Bear, the well-known spokesbruin of the United States Forest Service.
A Virginia artist, Rudy Wendelin of Arlington, depicted the friendly firefighting bear with the ranger hat and shovel for four decades, and is often credited with immortalizing him in pop culture history.
This exhibition, which includes 19 Wendelin paintings of Smokey Bear, is organized by the Virginia Department of Forestry to celebrate its 100th anniversary. It includes artwork on loan from the National Agricultural Library, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
For more on this media-savvy bear, you can visit his website, Facebook page, YouTube channel, Instagram feedor Twitter account.
