The next installment of Book & Look will focus on the book A Council of Dolls by Mona Susan Powers as it explores themes featured in the exhibition Clearly Indigenous.
A Council of Dolls focuses on the stories of three Native American women, told in part through the dolls they carry, as they deal with the horrors and abuse in Indian boarding schools spanning over a century. The author pulls from her family’s generational experiences with government intervention into Native American societies and with Indian boarding schools.
Discussions will center around the history of Indian boarding schools and how cultural symbolism in literature and art can be used in storytelling and advocacy.
Light refreshments will be served in the Jean Outland Chrysler Library Reading Room.
Free, registration not required.
