Cool It! at the Chrysler Every Thursday in July
NORFOLK, Va. – (June 2011) – The Chrysler Museum of Art presents Cool It!, a weekly concert series every Thursday in July. Cool It! offers young professionals an opportunity to mix it up after work and enjoy local live music and refreshing drinks. The galleries are open and guests can enjoy this summer’s special show, Curious George Saves the Day: The Art of Margret and H. A. Rey. The doors open at 6 p.m., and last call for the cash bar is at 9 p.m. Admission is free for members of For Art’s Sake: Young Affiliates of the Chrysler Museum and $5 for all others.
July 7 DJ Cornbread at AltDaily’s Norfology Night
Catch up with the creative class and experience the sounds of DJ Cornbread, a beatnik DJ with a lot of soul. Tunes will range from hip-hop to soul, funk and rock.
July 14 Tumbao Salsero
This Latin orchestra will keep your feet moving with full Latin percussion Salsa, Merengue, Guagnaco, Son Montuno, Jazz, Bomba and Plena.
July 21 Michael Clark Band
What started as a blues/rock guitar band evolved into an all-out R&B revue. Tracy Clark’s vocals and stage presence coupled with one of the tightest rhythm sections in the area and one of the funkiest horn sections on the East Coast provides all the elements for a great musical experience.
July 28 Cheap Thrills
This band is one of the local favorites at the beach. Originals and favorites are delivered by E.J. Bollmann on guitar, Steve Bollmann on drums, Chris Hall on keyboard, Drew Bollmann on percussion and David Cuffee on saxophone.
All proceeds from Cool It! benefit the Chrysler Museum’s programs and exhibitions.
The Chrysler Museum of Art is one of America’s most distinguished mid-sized art museums with a world-class collection of more than 30,000 objects, including one of the great glass collections in America. The Museum is located at 245 West Olney Road in Norfolk and is open Wednesdays, 10 a.m. -9 p.m.; Thursdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays, noon-5 p.m. The Chrysler is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as major holidays. Admission to the Museum’s permanent collection is free. Special exhibitions may have an admission fee.
