Ask a Curator
Why is my favorite piece not on view?
At the Chrysler we strive to exhibit as much of our collection as possible so that visitors can enjoy all of their favorites on every visit. However, we also work to ensure things are ‘always changing’ in order to showcase different perspectives, new ideas, and fresh ways of looking at art. Works of art occasionally move for a variety of reasons including loans to other museums, conservation, or temporary installations. You can search artists and works of art in our online database to see whether your favorite object is currently on view. It’s always best to check ahead if there is something specific you want to see, but we hope you’ll visit us to also discover something new.
What is the role of a Curator?
Ever wonder who selects some of the art in the museum and decides where it goes? That’s just a bit of what curators do. We are committed to making sure the museum is a fascinating place to learn about some of the greatest works of art in the world. We make that happen with plenty of research that helps us select new works to add to the permanent collection and find enlightening exhibitions that we know visitors will love.
