IDEAL, Intentional Designs of Expression in Artistic Languages
May 7, 2024 — June 9, 2024
Margaret Shepherd Ray Family and Student Gallery
IDEAL, Intentional Designs of Expression in Artistic Languages, is an initiative of Arts for Learning, the Virginia Affiliate of Young Audiences. This exhibition represents the second year of a three-year initiative, ending in the spring of 2025. Drawn from local school divisions in southside Hampton Roads, an estimated 250 students from nine different Title I elementary schools are expected to participate in the project.
The IDEAL students who participated in this year’s program came from Southside STEM Academy at Campostella (Norfolk), Douglass Park Elementary (Portsmouth), and Point O’ View Elementary (Virginia Beach). Guided by Arts for Learning’s professional teaching artists in this after-school program, students explored themes of self-identity, collaboration, and community through poetry, music, and visual art.
Arts for Learning is excited to offer this exhibition as part of the culmination of IDEAL 2024. In partnership with the Chrrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk Public Schools, Portsmouth Public Schools, and Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
