The Truth Booth
June 24, 2016 — June 25, 2016
Past Exhibition
Since then it’s traveled worldwide, and in advance of the 2016 presidential election, the artist collective behind the project sent it on a 50-state tour.
The video above was filmed during its two-day appearance here. A project of the Cause Collective, the inflatable booth is 14 feet tall and 23 feet wide. Inside there’s a touch screen and a prompt: “The truth is.”
After clicking a permission button, participants pressed record and spoke their truth. Video testimonials were archived, and for an example of what people had to say, here’s a YouTube Channel dedicated to the project.
Artists involved include Hank Willis Thomas, who visited Norfolk when his work was on view at the Chrysler in 2015, Will Sylvester, Ryan Alexiev, and Jim Ricks.
The artist collective behind this project turned to Kickstarter for financing. The generous support of the Rutter Family Art Foundation made this visit to the Chrysler Museum possible.
