What Lurks Beneath? Find Out at IgNITE: Lagoon

NORFOLK, Va., September 10, 2025

WHO: The Chrysler Museum of Art invites visitors ages 18+ to explore the mystery of what lies beneath during IgNITE: Lagoon, a wild (but not wet) celebration of local artists and our community’s wonderful waterways.

WHAT: Calling all mermaids, swamp things, and creatures of the deep! Journey to the depths of your imagination at an adults-only party designed to ignite your creativity with a high-volume dose of dancing, music, cocktails, and more! The Chrysler Museum takes a turn to the wild side with DJ sets, amazing performances, and surprises around every corner. Play with bubbles, explore pop-up installations, and compete for best costume, all while celebrating contemporary artists, creative collaboration, and the sheer thrill of being alive. So come in costume, hit the dance floor, and make a splash at IgNITE: Lagoon.

Due to the nature of the Museum setting, costume guidelines include:

  • No masks or face-covering accessories,
  • Leave the props at home (no toy guns, swords, wands, staffs, brooms, etc.),
  • Stick to costumes that don’t extend beyond your personal space, and
  • Keep it tasteful – save the nudity for the art!

WHERE: Chrysler Museum of Art, One Memorial Place, Norfolk

WHEN: Friday, October 3, from 7–10 p.m.

WHY: IgNITE: Lagoon draws inspiration from two creative happenings in Norfolk, Virginia:

  • The first-ever The Hague Parade: A Floating Art Exhibition on Sunday, October 5. Inspired by the Bosch Parade in the Netherlands, visitors get a sneak peek during IgNITE: Lagoon.
  • Chrysler Museum of Art exhibition’s “Still,” which celebrates the versatile designer Tapio Wirkkala (Finnish, 1915–85), whose work is characterized as much by its simplicity as by its closeness to the natural world.

TICKETS: Early Bird pricing is $10 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Tickets increase by $10 on the day of the event. Tickets are available now at chrysler.org/ignite

CHILDCARE: The Chrysler Museum is thrilled to continue to partner with the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA for childcare for IgNITE. To register, call 757-962-5535.

Chrysler Museum members are eligible for a childcare discount. YMCA members will receive a discount code for IgNITE when they sign up for childcare.

FOOD: Kick the evening off with Happy Half-Hour from 7–7:30 p.m., featuring 50% off drinks. Then fuel your night with delicious options available for purchase, including jerk shrimp tacos, island burgers, Jamaican beef patties, sweet potato fries and fried plantains.
