Peers: Mixed Media Work and the Tenth Annual Wearable Arts Exhibition

Each year, the Chrysler Museum of Art and The Governor’s School for the Arts partner on a semester-long program that culminates in a fashion show, Interwoven Views, on Friday, March 22 and an exhibition in the Margaret Shepherd Ray Student & Family Gallery. This year, the students found inspiration in the Chrysler Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Visual arts students submitted two-dimensional works to hang in the Museum during the event and alongside the wearable arts. Over 50 students participate in the Wearable Arts Show. Each modeled look that went down the runway is exhibited at the Museum after the event. This year’s theme invited artists to share their unique views of the world. To prepare for this year’s in-person fashion show, the students spent several months selecting their inspirations, sketching designs, and constructing runway-ready looks.
This partnership between The Governor’s School for the Arts and the Chrysler Museum of Art is a true celebration of creative problem solving and artist agency. It is a way to encourage young artists to use museums as sources of inspiration and artistic growth, then show off that unique perspective to the community. Working with the innovative students, faculty, and staff at GSA encourages new ways of seeing the Museum’s collections and exhibitions.
