Health and Safety Protocols at the Glass Studio

Updated August 16, 2021

In addition to the guidelines set forth by the Museum, please find an extensive list of guidelines for maintaining health and safety for Glass Studio team members and the public.

Overview

Stay home when you are sick. If you’re experiencing any signs of illness, please delay your visit.

For the safety of everyone in our community, all visitors age 3 and up are required to wear a face mask in the Museum and Glass Studio, regardless of vaccination status.

Wash/disinfect your hands frequently before and after class with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds or use the contact-free hand sanitizer stations located throughout the Glass Studio.

Workspaces Protocols

Hot Shop

    • All tools including pipes, punties, furnace handle, blocks, bench, tool deck, tools, safety glasses, safe door, annealer doors, Blow-Matic, and other surfaces will be cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant by the Glass Studio team after each use.
    • Sanitation supplies are available for additional cleaning
    • Blown glass objects are inflated with the Blow-Matic, a special compressed air device. The glass will be inflated through a compressed air line that is outfitted with an adjustable nozzle to increase or decrease pressure. This new protocol avoids the use of your own breath when making blown glass objects.

Flame Shop

      • Please stay in the assigned torch station.
      • All torches, tools, glasses, chairs, and surfaces will be cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant by Glass Studio team members after each use.
      • Use sanitation supplies provided to clean the tools to your level of comfort.

Flat Shop

    • Please stay in the assigned station.
    • All tools, glasses, chairs, and surfaces will be cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant by the Glass Studio team after each use.
    • Use sanitation supplies provided to clean the tools to your level of comfort.

Cold Shop

    • All surfaces touched, including wheels and machinery accessories, will be cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant by the Glass Studio team after each use.
    • Use sanitation supplies provided to clean the tools to your level of comfort.
Other Common Areas Protocols

General

    • Regular hand washing (at least 20 seconds) should occur after having contact with high-touch surfaces or with students.
    • The use of the ice machine and cup wall is prohibited.

Elevator

    • Occupancy is limited to one person at a time inside of the elevator.
    • While surfaces will be disinfected regularly, we encourage everyone to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer after touching buttons.
    • Please do not use your feet to press buttons in the elevator.

Kitchen

    • The refrigerators and kitchen appliances are for Glass Studio team use only.
    • The microwave, coffee pot, faucets, toaster oven, and refrigerator handles are cleaned daily. It is recommended that you wash your hands before and after eating.
