Centuries-old glass techniques meet cutting-edge video technology in an exhibition that celebrates the beauty of Venetian glassmaking.
The Seguso family has been involved in Venetian glass since 1397, a glorious period in glass history that produced remarkably beautiful and technically masterful works that were the envy of the world.
Today the Seguso family, led by famed designer Giampaolo Seguso, continues the family tradition at Seguso Vetri d’Arte, their factory/studio/world headquarters on the famous island of Murano. One of his sons is the CEO. Another son is creative director.
Seguso is known for creating lyrical works rich in color, texture, and tradition. Here he presents a sasso (Italian for “stone”) sculpture paired with dramatic projected imagery. The hot-sculpted solid glass sasso remains at rest, but exhibits a hypnotic rhythm in conjunction with the motion of the video.
Video production came from Dragone, an international creative consultancy based in La Louviere, Belguim. Franco Dragone is the firm’s artistic director.
