As part of our Glass Studio Visiting Artist Series, an exhibition April Surgent’s contemporary glass cameo art will be on display from Nov. 14 to Dec. 30.

She worked live in our Glass Studio from Nov. 14-18. To hear the artist describe the process in her own words, here’s a video that was produced by the Museum of Glass in Tacoma (and we thank the museum for the use of the video).

Surgent studied glass production in Denmark as a teenager. In 2003, she received a scholarship to attend Pilchuck Glass School, where she learned cold-working and traditional cameo engraving techniques, studying with master Czech engraver and mentor Jiri Harcuba.

In 2009, she was awarded the Neddy Artist Fellowship for glass through the Behnke Foundation. In 2010, she received the Urban Glass New Talent award in 2010.
