Bring your pencil and sketchbook for an informal drawing group in the galleries. Practice close observation of a work of art, hone your skills, and meet like-minded artists. Artist and educator Rowena F. Finn will facilitate the session, providing inspiration and feedback.
This month, the featured work of art is Leon Kroll’s oil painting, In the Hills. Beyond a thicket of apple trees, the Catskill Mountains provide a color-saturated backdrop for this portrait of two young women. The solidity of these figures indicates Kroll’s training in the traditional art academies of New York and Paris, but the landscape, painted in short choppy brushstrokes, reveals his admiration for French Impressionism and the work of Paul Cezanne.
Dry media only. Please bring a sketchbook and pencils.
$5 for Museum members, $8 for non-members, registration is recommended.
