Join us for our final Book Club discussion of 2021 as we delve into Thi Bui’s beautiful, tragic, personal graphic memoir The Best We Could Do. Bui grapples with her own identity as a mother as she looks back at her family history, a long story of parents and children.
Our discussion will connect Bui’s story with Tuan Andrew Nguyen’s The Boat People, a film currently on view at the Chrysler. Both the film and the book look at refugees displaced from Vietnam in the postwar period. Bui’s family builds a new home in the United States, while Nguyen’s characters live a dreamlike existence in the Philippines.
Registration is required.
The Zoom link will be sent before the event.
