'Tis the season to bake sweet treats

Thursday, December 7, 2023
6:15–7:30 p.m.

Are you a culinary artist on the down low or a Weekend Baker? Do you have dreams of participating in The Great British Bake Off? Well, get ready for the most creative baking contest in Hampton Roads! In this “just for fun” baking battle, youth and adult bakers show off their skills with creations (pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, or bars) inspired by a work of art in the Chrysler Museum’s collection. See below for details and to sign up to participate.

Find inspiration online

Prizes and Guidelines

All participants who have a completed entry will be given a gift of thanks for participating. In addition, First, Second, Third Place, and Next Generation prizes will be awarded, and all visitors can get into the act with the People’s Choice Award. Entries will be judged on creativity, appearance, and execution. Submissions will not be tasted or sampled. Contestants may have more than one entry, but can only win one (1) prize. Please do not submit anything that is store-bought or requires refrigeration. Family and groups are welcomed and encouraged to participate, but prizes will be awarded to the group only, NOT each individual. This competition is for amateur bakers, not professionals. We define a “professional baker” as someone who earns a full-time living selling or demonstrating baked goods.

Registration is now closed. Thank you to everyone participating. Please plan to be at the Chrysler Museum on Thursday, December 7, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.

Event Schedule

6:15–6:30 p.m.: Baker check-in and setup
6:30–7:15 p.m.: Judging and Voting for People’s Choice Award
7:30 p.m.: Awards Announced and Prizes Given

Dare to share! On Facebook or Instagram, tag a picture of your baked good and mention your inspiration piece using #ChryslerBakeOff.

Free First Thursday

The Bake-off will be the feature event at the Chrysler Museum’s First Thursday. All contestants and their guest are invited to join gallery talks of works featured in the Bake-Off, enjoy live music, and a cash bar with a signature craft cocktail. The Chrysler’s Poinsettia Tree will be up and we will be doing winter floral arrangement demonstrations. Everyone will get to dive into creative crafting activities before, after, and during the event with some VERY special makers. As you can see, on this full evening, if you don’t get a chance to bake it, you can definitely make it! It’s all about getting crafty!!!
